My Role

UX/UI design

Duration

10 weeks

Tool

Adobe XD
Most often, improper care causes indoor plants to look unhealthy or dead. People who want to add greenery to their homes sometimes need to learn how to care for plants correctly and take care of them on time.
Background
Research
Goal
My goal is to understand their existing plant care routine, difficulties, and attitudes toward the ideal assisted plant care tools.
Research method
Qualitative research, quantitative research
First, I surveyed 20 individuals who have plant raising experiences.
Over half of the interviewers think plant knowledge and regular care can affect plant health the most.

Persona

Based on the research, I build the user profile for the user group that is from 20 to 35 years old. They usually love nature and would like to live in a vibrant environment, but don't have much time to spend on their plants or lack plant caring knowledge.

Competition Analysis

I found three existing plant-raising apps: Blossom, Florish, and Planta in the market for feature matrix and competition analysis.
A young designer who loves nature needs to balance his work and enjoy nature time because his work is very stressful and if he can be close to nature and raise plants in his home can make him happy and relaxed.

TASK FLOW 01
The user wants to get a new plant.
Customized recommendations, Delivery service,
Locating nearby florists
DESIGN THINKING
Recommended plants are categorized by difficulty level.

Use a sliding carousel to make it easier for users to navigate.

Users can view the plant info and feeding instructions. Slide to the bottom to get this plant as an option.

User chooses to order delivery or find the nearest florist via the map feature.

User can use Cancel or Edit button to edit their orders.
TASK FLOW 02
The user wants to know more about plant disease.
Explore practical articles,
Bug & Disease knowledge,
Save articles
DESIGN THINKING
I put all the articles and caring skills about plants in the Explore section. It is easy for users   to find the part that interests them and expand their knowledge.

I put Caring skills on the top in order to let users figure out problems quickly.

User clicks the Bug & Disease category to see specific plant diseases.

I make the heart-shaped button on the right corner of the picture, which is a comfortable   finger position for users to save the article.

I make a notification pops up after the user tap to save the article.
TASK FLOW 03
The user wants to customize the caring routine.
Album-style photo wall,
Watering reminder button,
Customize reminders
DESIGN THINKING
My Plants section is the default page after the user login. Users can see and manage their   plants. I designed a green plus button on the top right so that the user can add plants.

I made an album-style photo wall to showcase the growing process of the plant. The user   can add more photos by themselves and add dates to them. This would motivate users to   keep taking care of the plants.

I designed a watering reminder button on the top. The red reminds the user to water the   plants. After watering, users can tap the button, then it will turn green.

I made a time range and reminder methods for users to select. The toggle button is clean    and easy to understand.

Next Steps

I will further refine other aspects of task flows and features in the following steps. There seems to be no absolute end to UX improvements, as users' needs constantly change. There are also many good ideas in user surveys and interviews that I can keep exploring more in the future.
